Family Fishing Classic
The 2009 Mitsubishi Motors Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic has concluded for another successful year.
This year the weather gods were very generous to us providing near perfect fishing conditions for all categories of fishing. As always the fishing families were entertained and rewarded for their efforts. This years sponsors upped the anti and provided some fantastic prizes to those who fished, to those who tried and to those who didn’t.
The major sponsor, Mitsubishi Motors, rewarded one lucky participant, Ian Chesmar from New Zealand with the first prize boat package worth just under $20,000.00. The first prize boat package was a Quintrex 430 Escape with trailer and safety gear, the 2nd major prize was $3,000.00 with 3rd being $1,500.00.
This years crowds were entertained over the 8 days with entertainment scheduled for during the day, weigh-in and presentation. Free face painting & Jumping Castle entertained the kids on kid’s day and on the last day. Phippsy cooked up a seafood storm while the crowd were invited to taste Rawson’s Retreat Wines, Dave Downie found out some of the local fishing secretes and divulged them to the crowd. People in the crowd were invited indiscriminately to have a free beer in the VB truck and anybody owning a Mitsubishi vehicle was rewarded with a few hours in the VB Truck, canapés, drinks, a fishing rod & tackle pack from Jarvis Walker. Rainbow Shores Resort, again, ran a Golf Tournament in conjunction with the event providing an alternative to fishing. The Golf tournament provided a fantastic holiday accommodation prize pack and was awarded at the grand finale presentation. Zinc Fm ran two outside broadcasts from Rainbow Beach one from Ruth’s shop “Food Works”, our kids major sponsor, at the beginning of the event, and Phippy’s also did a live broadcast from the event grounds on the last Friday. Mitsubishi are still running their major rewards promotion until the end of the year for anyone who participated in the event, if they buy a new Mitsubishi they will receive a $1,000.00 worth of Jarvis Walker Rovex Fishing Gear.
Once again the prize pool exceeded the 100k mark with this years sponsors being very generous. The prizes included a lot of cash, Rovex & Penn fishing gear, Waeco esky’s, sponsors apparel, Carlton & Bundaberg Rum merchandise, swags, Northstar fish finders, cooking appliances, camping gear, 4WD gear, Fraser Is holidays from the Kingfisher Bay Resort group, fishing charters and a whole lot more.
The kids were very well looked after with nightly prizes given at random for weighing in a fish They had their very own draw down prize pool, first prize being an Nintendo Wii and the overall winners and runners up’s received cash prizes at the finale presentation night. Every child who entered the classic regardless of wether they fished, did not go home empty handed, as every child received a prize for attending the event.
The 2009 grand prize, Quintrex boat package, was won by Ian Chesmar from New Zealand. The prize couldn’t have gone to anyone more deserving as he has been a loyal supporter of our event for years. Ian actually did his prize apprenticeship as he won 3rd place only 2 years ago. This year the lucky number 7 ball, which provided Donna Small last year with her win, once again came up trumps and gave Ian his.
Next years event will be on from Friday the 23rd July, 2010 to Saturday the 31st July, 2010. We hope to see you again next year
